Edinburgh

Our capital city since the 15th century, Edinburgh has long been the seat of the Scottish Government. The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582 and now one of three in the city, is considered one of the best research institutions in the world.

There are various notable domesticated Scottish mammal breeds including Highland Cattle, Soay Sheep and Scottish Terrier. Scotland's diverse temperate environments support 62 species of wild mammals, including a population of wild cats.

The Kilt

The kilt first appeared as the belted plaid or great kilt, a full-length garment whose upper half could be worn as a cloak draped over the shoulder, or brought up over the head as a hood.
